History comes alive at our Wax Museum

We made the front page!

For our Annual Wax Museum event, 5th graders at Sonora Elementary School are asked to choose a historical figure, research their lives and accomplishments, and then show up in character to share what they have learned. Parents, teachers and other students flock to the gym to see the costumes and artwork that brings so many historical figures to life.

Each 5th grader prepares a concise speech to deliver to visitors who ask. To develop their expertise, the students start by reading one detailed biography on the figure they choose, and then spend weeks doing additional research and rehearsing their presentations.

In the process, they learn about research, note-taking, public speaking, props, backdrops, and obviously, history, while also developing confidence and creativity.

From presidents and explorers to ground breakers and scientists, the students beam with pride as people come by to admire their work.

Great job 5th grade! With special thanks to Mr. Jannuzzi, Mr. McFarland, and Mrs. Bicknell for their leadership and support.
