Activities & Programs: Enhancing Student Engagement and Enrichment
At Sonora Elementary School, we believe in providing a well-rounded educational experience for our students. Our Activities & Programs encompass diverse opportunities that enrich their learning journey. From engaging in sports activities and joining the PM Club to embarking on exciting field trips, our students have access to various extracurricular activities. We also offer Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) programs to nurture our students’ unique abilities and talents. Additionally, we encourage active involvement in our school community through initiatives like Support Sonora School and participation in the Site Council. These activities and programs contribute to the holistic development of our students and foster a sense of belonging within our school community.
Sonora Elementary Sports Programs
We offer an extensive range of athletic opportunities for our student-athletes. We kick off the school year with Girls Basketball and Co-Ed Cross Country in the Fall, followed by Winter opportunities for Boys to Wrestle and play Basketball. In the Spring season, we offer Girls Volleyball, and we conclude the year with Co-Ed Track and Field.
Our athletic teams practice after school and compete with neighboring schools, and we also participate in competitions outside the local area. We take pride in hosting the J.A.K tournament for Boys Basketball and the ‘Coach Classic’ for Volleyball, both long-standing traditions.
Our Bobcat athletes have achieved outstanding accomplishments, and we have a collection of trophies to show for the success of our athletic programs.
Every Fall, since 2009, we have honored the memory of U.S. Army Sgt. Bobby Rapp with our annual Rapp’s Run. Sgt. Rapp was a Sonora native who loved to run Cross Country before he joined the military and lost his life in Afghanistan in 2008. The Rapp family still attends the event, which draws in about 150 runners from schools in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.
At SES, we ensure that every eligible student is placed on a team, allowing them to develop the character traits that come from hard work, determination, and coachability. There is something for every student to participate in, and we take pride in offering a safe and fair environment.
